A Ballium prompt on a park basketball court: name a Suns player from the 1990s, with a 35-second clock and a RUN button

How Ballium works

  1. Seven prompts, one answer each

Everybody gets the same seven every day. Name a New Jersey Nets player, a teammate of Hakeem Olajuwon, an All-Star from the 1990s.

  2. Beat the shot clock

You get 35 seconds a prompt. A name that doesn't fit costs you three seconds, not the prompt, so keep guessing until one lands.

  3. Rarer answers run further

A name everybody knows is a jog. A deep cut is a full sprint with the whole court flying past you.

  4. See how you stack up

Your feet add up across all seven. Where you stop is your grade, and the curve shows how your run compares with everyone else's.

A rare answer graded Hall of Fame in Ballium, worth 85 points and 850 feet, as the player runs toward the doors of The Gym

Ballium and Krillion

Both reward the answer nobody else thought of. Krillion came first and covers a bit of everything. Ballium only cares about hoops.

Questions

Is there a basketball version of Krillion?

Ballium is the one to play. It uses the same rare-answer idea as Krillion, but every prompt is about the NBA. It's its own game, made by tween, not by Krillion.

Is Ballium free?

Yes. Play in your browser with no account. Sign in if you want your daily run on the leaderboard.

How often is there a new game?

Every day. Everybody gets the same seven prompts and one attempt at them. Practice deals a fresh seven whenever you want, unranked.

How does Ballium decide what's rare?

By how well known a player is. Each answer is ranked using a year of Wikipedia pageviews, blended with how long the player lasted in that prompt's context, such as games played for that team.

Do I have to spell the name perfectly?

No. Last names, first names, nicknames and near misses all count, and accents and apostrophes never matter.

Can I play on my phone?

Yes. It runs in any phone browser, and it's in the tween app for iPhone too.
